MR. J. VIALUA FROM THE MARA DISTRICT:

Mr.J.Vialua

Mr.J.Vialua is the best singer of the present century among the Maras in the Mara District of south Mizoram, North Eastern  India. He is now running 52 years old. He is brought up from good family, having three brothers Mr. J.H.Chawhmo, Mr. J.H.Beisai and Mr.J.H.Matha, and two sisters Mrs. J.Khaidei and Mrs.Biapaw. He married very beautiful woman Mrs.K.Sari, sister of Dr.K.Rakhu, MBBS, his present post at Tuipang Hospital. Tuipang, local name Tipa, is the sub-headquarters of the Mara District. During the British period, the British officials tried to make a project at Tipa river (Haosaino), by digging some areas, but they left the said place before the completion of the work.

Mr.J.Vialua is now a senior father, begetting three sons 1) J.K.Haleluia 2) J.Vaha  and 3)Johny Lee J.Bimbo; and five daughters 1) J.Vasi 2) Jenolly J.Didali 3) J.Varapawngia 4) J.Vaki  and 5) J.Ruby. J.Vialua and his children are all good musicians and great singers, and their rooms are decorated with sweet memories of many different latest albums. He composes more than 40 numbers, and he is a fine lyric writer. Most of his lyrical songs composed by him are country-side numbers in the composition and musical tunes. Some of his songs are emotional, romantic, sentimental and natural appealing to the existing social situation. The greatest hit among his albums is “Alaipa lai lao, Aleipa lei lao”(The loser loses everything and the bold head eats all). The central theme of this song is rather truth and social justice against corruption in money matters, which is not applicable to the Christian teachings in the Mara society. Mr.J.Vialua is a social reformer in his lyrical message, which carries many reconstruction and reformation of the civil society, being directly reflects towards the context of the existing Mara society. He is a man of principle and in his mental attitude, he always attacks the prevailing social injustice, corruption and other necessary evils. He believes in absolute naturalism, and advocates towards better development and improvement of his people, and most of his songs are marked by war of ideas for the cause of social justice and equality.

Mr.Vialua is now teacher, working in the Primary School at Saiha, the capital of the Mara District. Personally he is really the sweetest bread and butter for the listeners to every musical tune in every formal and informal programs and get-togethers, and nothing is somehow uncomplete without Mr.Vialua. Many young boys and girls love his musical albums, and in fact he is well-known person among the Maras. He is now described as professional singer, and is always ready to go on and on any time. In his personal character, he bears no pessimistic morality, and often shows high degree of courtesy and simplicity towards all civilians. He follows westernism in his dress and fashion, but he always maintains his tribal culture in his habits.

Mr. Vialua is a true ordinary citizen in his physical structure among the Maras, occupying 5ft. 2inches spaces, his physical feature is rather below margin to compare his wife’s height, but he is strong, hard, bold and fast. He is very healthy in his outlook, his black hair and sharp eyes are favorable, and his physiognomy is still young, rosy and blossom in the eyes of the Maras. The most remarkable thing in his personal trait is his vocal sound, which is clear, deep, sweet, open, lovely, etc. Such special blessing trait is not bestowed to any other citizens in the Mara District. His vocal voice is always straight and clear, and any one once who hears his musical tunes often demands saying the words “More …please…rewind …come on”. Mr. J.Vialua often portrays himself as “a third class citizen” in term of simplicity and morality. In public assessment, Mr. J.Vialua is a true teacher of natural and social science, introducing many ballads in the Mara culture and society. In the next, more few comments on his lyrics may be seen on the same web.
